It’s no surprise that the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries around. Yet there still seems to be far from vision to actually delivering results when it comes to plans of a future with sustainable production and responsible consumption. The transition is a heavy, long lasting process with a road so long, that an overall positive fashion industry seems like miles away. To change, conventional patterns and regimes, takes a larger effort and a whole new mindset when it comes to both production and consumption.
Many of the larger players on the market like; ZARA, H&M, ASOS and so on have an enormous job ahead of them, especially when it comes to transitioning their production to becoming slightly less polluting. It’s a hugely costly affair and that impacts the company’s financial status and profitable bottom line. And because of those high costs of turning green, companies aren’t prioritizing this. Even though the larger players have a long and winding road ahead of them, there’s luckily have a strong wave of new and established companies, that are making decisions and taking responsibility in regard to the large environmental challenges the industry creates. Sustainability is carefully thought into every process of the company’s brand from idea to production and finally ending up somewhere in the hands of an end consumer. The full circle process doesn’t necessarily stop when a consumer has taken a product off the shelf, it’s equally as important to think of the whole life span, and the product’s after life.
And there is an apparent issue here! There often happens to be leftover material from a production or unavoidable errors happening during larger productions. Not forgetting to mention the tons and tons of overstocked shelves and warehouses of stock that is not moving from warehouse to a happy consumer. And what happens with that? As a consumer one can only question where it will end up…. We will leave this question unanswered!
Our vision is to be as sustainable as possible. We constantly look into opportunities to optimize and change steps in our company structure, so that all our processes can contribute to caring for our dear planet with the respect it deserves, without compromising on our product range.
Something new we’ve just launched is our little range of hair scrunchies. They are all made from leftover fabrics from our production in Italy. The scrunchies themselves are hand sewn in Denmark, at Venture Huset. Venture Huset is a social organization that creates jobs for people with reduced work ability. They have a small sewing area where over 20 part time employees work as much as they are able to. Most of the employees have experience within this field already, but it’s not a criteria to be hired. They are all challenged either physically or mentally in ways they are not able to function at a “regular” workplace.
What stands out the most, is also the most compelling about the place, is that it’s a work environment with lots of room and understanding. Everyone is taken care of despite of each other’s differences. There’s room for everyone. And that warms our Planet Nusa hearts <3
For example, a blind woman works equally alongside the other seamstresses on the sewing machines. The responsible team from Venture Huset have found a technique where she safely can sew on the machine and go about her daily tasks just like everyone else. How amazing is it to know that a woman with no eye sight has contributed to the sewing of the Planet Nusa scrunchies. We’re impressed, happy and so proud of the result.
We launched the scrunchies by inviting some of our Nusa friends to a creative workshop at our office in Copenhagen. Prior to the event we’d searched through our private collections of DIY-stuff and found lots of glitter, rhinestones & beads so everyone could customize their own scrunchies.

Det er ikke nogen nyhed, at tøjbranchen er en af de mest forurenende industrier der findes. Alligevel er der langt fra visioner til handling, når det gælder planerne om en fremtid med bæredygtige produktionsmønstre og ansvarligt forbrug. Omstillingen er en tungt og længerevarende proces, med lidt for lange udsigter til en overordnet positiv industri. At ændre traditionelle mønstre kræver en større indsats og et helt nyt mindset, både når det gælder produktion og forbrug.
Mange af de større aktører på markedet som f.eks. ZARA, H&M, ASOS osv. har et kæmpe oprydningsarbejde foran sig, særligt når det kommer til den grønne omstilling. Det er en dyr affære, som koster rigtig meget på bundlinjen. Netop derfor er det heller ikke nødvendigvis det der står øverst på prioriteringslisten. Men selvom de større spillere har en lang og kringlet vej foran sig, så er der heldigvis en god bølge af nye og etablerede firmaer, som tager stilling til og ansvar for forhold til de store miljømæssige udfordringer. Her bliver der taget stilling til bæredygtighed i alle dele af virksomheden.
For ja, det hænder ofte at der vil være overskydende materialer fra en produktion eller at der sker produktionsfejl i de større produktioner. For slet ikke at tale om de tonsvis af overproducerede varer der ligger på lagerhylderne og som ofte ikke kan afsættes. Og hvad sker der så med dem?.... Som forbruger kan man kun gisne på hvor de havner… Vi lader spørgsmålet stå åbent!
Vores vision er at være så bæredygtige som muligt. Vi kigger hele tiden på mulighederne for at optimere og ændre led i virksomhedsstrukturen , så vi i processerne kan være med til at behandle vores kære planet med respekt, uden at gå på kompromis med vores produkter.
Som et lille nyt tiltag har vi netop lanceret scrunchies, der er produceret af leftover fabrics fra vores italienske leverandør. Selve elastikkerne er håndsyet i Danmark, nærmere betegnet hos Venture Huset i Ballerup på Sjælland. Venture Huset er en socialøkonomisk organisation, der skaber arbejdspladser til mennesker med nedsat arbejdsfunktion. Her er der indrettet en systue, hvor over tyve flexjobbere arbejder på nedsat tid. De fleste ansatte har arbejdsmæssig erfaring med at sy, men det er ikke et krav for ansættelsen. Fælles for dem alle er, at de er udfordret enten fysisk eller psykisk i en sådan grad, at de ikke kan fungere på en ”almindelig” arbejdsplads.
Det mest særlige og måske også det mest betagende ved stedet er, at det er en arbejdsplads med masser af rummelighed. Der bliver taget hensyn til hinanden uanset forskelligheder. Det vigtigste er, at der er plads til alle. En tankegang, som varmer vores Planet Nusa hjerte. <3

Tænk hvor fantastisk det er, at en kvinde uden syn, har været med til at sy Planet Nusa scrunchies. Vi er imponerede, glade og stolte over resultatet.
I sidste uge inviterede vi nogle af vores Nusa venner til krea-workshop på vores kontor i København. Inden eventet havde vi været i gemmerne og fundet alverdens glitter, glimmer, perler og palietter mm. frem, så alle kunne customize og personliggøre deres egen scrunchie.
